Siga os arcos! / Track the arcs!

Fala galera!

Hey there folks! I just bumped into this video and I was amazed. It's so wonderful, so full of animation principles that I almost felt it was too good to be true! Notice how important is to keep your extremes in great silhouette, with great body language and great staging! And above all we can see the inbetweens and the breakdowns. Its really amazing when we can actually see, sumuntaniously the principles floating all together in front of us!

Passo a passo Ollie Premiere! // Step by Step: Ollie Premiere

Fala galera!
Hey Guys! English version is right after the portuguese one! All the structure and videos too!! So just scroll down!!

Keep it simple Stupid!

Deixei o personagem me guiar pela cena.

Vejam o resultado final!!
Um grande abraço!

Hey guys!
I wanted to share with you some of my workflow for the OnFire's premiere shot!
The whole process started with a plan that was not very useful at the end, but there were the seeds of what would become the project. As you can see here, the initial plan was to have the OnFire characters acting out, connecting with one another until we get to Ollie, the character of the body mechanics.

Unfortunately or fortunately, the process ended in the first pass of blocking because as I progressed, I realized that I had Ollie, a humanoid character, only through the end of the sequence and I was losing strength in the shot since he could not work with the characters long enough to empathize with the viewer. That is, back to KISS! Keep it simple Stupid!
Here is the version of blocking with the characters:

As I got the idea of what I wanted, the feeling of what I thought was the right thing to do with Ollie, I started out the blocking phase of the scene in a totally exploratory way, did not know where he was going or what Ollie was really going do. I let the characters lead me through the scene. (This sort of thing is the most fun to do though, as you can see, the shot gets bigger and bigger since you're so busy having fun in the straight ahead that you lose track of the size of the shot).
And in the end, this was the process to get the final result of character animation!

Finally, my good friend and partner Fernando Jorge, was to render the project and, surprisingly, he broke the shot into many shots. To my amazement, it was what made the project look amazing. This addition of pacing and contrast was super important to the sequence.
And at that moment there was a great lesson, which is one of the things I try really hard to convince my students about, animate always in viewport, perspective wise! It is logical that the scene has to work for the camera, but as a human, if the camera rotate around it, the actor will be balanced and structured with the pose correctly in relation to body mechanics. So when Fernando took the stage and made these changes, there was no need to change the animation to make it work for the camera. The correct body mechanics was there! Only the ball that made a wrong arc in the Z axis to be thrown up.
You see the final result!

Minha animação no facebook da Animation Mentor! / My 2D animation featured at Animation Mentor Facebook

Fala galera!

Hi there Folks,
Im so happy that AM posted at it's facebook one of my 2D animations. I did that 4 years ago as a way to say thanks for many possibilities that happened in my life since then.
I hope you guys enjoy it!
